Researching Chiropractic: Crohn’s, AIS, and Fainting

How many people suffering, on drugs, facing a life of limitation could be helped by chiropractic care?  Probably most of them.

Crohn’s disease and chiropracticabdominal-pain-2821941_1920

A 60-year-old man diagnosed with Crohn’s disease was suffering from abdominal pain and cramping, stiffness all over his body, diarrhea and a generalized feeling of sickness and malaise. His symptoms had begun six years prior and developed gradually.

When he began chiropractic care, he was taking multiple medications for his condition that he felt were not helping. He was unable to go more than one hour without experiencing symptoms.

Chiropractic examination revealed subluxations at multiple levels as well as a poor diet. Subluxation-centered chiropractic care was initiated and his diet was addressed to restore proper intestinal gut flora. The patient reported immediate relief following his first and second adjustments with complete resolution of Crohn’s disease over the course of care. He was able to stop taking all medications after nine months of care. The patient’s complete remission was confirmed by his endocrinologist. (1)

Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS)woman-837156_1920

A 21-year-old woman began chiropractic care complaining of low back pain and of radiating numbness into her legs and feet. X-ray and other analysis revealed a left-sided scoliosis (her spine was twisted to the left) plus an exaggerated mid-back (thoracic) and lower back (lumbar) curve.

She was analyzed for subluxations. Her chiropractic care addressed and corrected her subluxations and over a period of five months of care (a total of 62 visits) her left-leaning scoliosis reduced from 20° to 12.5°. Additionally, her mid-back curve reduced from 63° to 40° and her low-back curve reduced from 70° to 65°.

By seven months of care she experienced improvement of over 50% in well-being and a 50% reduction of her physical complaints. (2)

Faintingfriends-3042751_1920

A 57-year-old woman complaining of sudden blackouts (fainting) was diagnosed with “vasovagal syncope” (VVS), a sudden, brief, temporary loss of consciousness (LOC). She also had constant neck pain primarily on the right and inability to turn her head fully to the right.

She had tried prescribed medication and her MD recommended surgically implanting a pacemaker to regulate her nerve function. She refused.

Chiropractic examination and X-ray analysis revealed vertebral subluxations of the upper neck or cervical vertebrae (C1 and C2).

Her VVS completely disappeared and never returned after her first visit. By her fourth visit her neck pain and limited range of motion greatly diminished. (3)

Researching Chiropractic: Stroke, Constipation, and Amenorrhea

Chiropractic clinical case histories have been a regular feature of our patient newsletter since its inception. There seems to be no limit to the health problems that respond to chiropractic care. How many people suffering, on drugs, facing a life of limitation could be helped by chiropractic care?   Probably most of them.

Strokeman-3803551_1920

A 40-year-old man had a 7-year history of right-sided lower leg weakness following a stroke. In addition to leg weakness, he had postural alterations, reduced right-sided lower back strength and altered balance.

He began chiropractic care. The patient reported improvement in strength and balance. Objective improvement in posture, motor strength, balance and surface electromyography and thermography studies were also revealed. (1)

Constipation

A three-year-old girl suffered from a full year of constipation. She was unable to have a non-laxative induced bowel movement. After 4 or 5 days of no bowel movements her parents would begin giving her laxatives until it triggered a bowel movement, which was reported to be large, very firm and an overall traumatic experience for the child.

Spinal examination revealed vertebral subluxations of her neck (cervical spine). Chiropractic adjustments were utilized to correct the cervical subluxations and after two office visits, she started having daily bowel movements. Within a three-month period of weekly chiropractic visits and adjustments, the patient’s constipation resolved completely. (2)

Amenorrheawoman-3083379_1920

A 26-year-old female sought out chiropractic care following a work injury to her rib and low back. Upon her initial assessment she reported she hadn’t had a menstrual period for “several years”. Following three weeks of care, the patient reported improvements in her rib and low back pain complaints. In addition, the patient reported to be menstruating normally. (3)

Researching Chiropractic: Stroke, Palsy, and Post-Op Pain

Chiropractic clinical case histories have been a regular feature of our patient newsletter since its inception. There seems to be no limit to the health problems that respond to chiropractic care. How many people suffering, on drugs, facing a life of limitation could be helped by chiropractic care?

Probably most of them.

Stroke in a 50-year-old womanstroke

A woman with a 10-month history of left hemiplegia (paralysis on the left side of the body) after a hemorrhagic stroke began chiropractic care. A hemorrhagic stroke occurs when a blood vessel in the brain bleeds and a part of the brain is oxygen deprived.

Her ability to move her arm and leg, as well as standing, balancing, posture and walking were all affected. Additionally, she had neck pain and a “constant dull ache” headache.

The cause of the stroke was an adverse reaction to AVA 30, an oral contraceptive pill, in combination with the medication tranexamic acid.

Chiropractic care located and corrected her vertebral subluxations. She had 17 visits over a ten-week period and began to show improvement in her strength and physical functioning by her second visit.

She continued to improve in posture, neck range of motion (ROM), overall muscle function and nervous system balance. Sadly, she discontinued care after her neurologist told her 3rd party payer that “chiropractic care increased the risk of a stroke” (an unproven, baseless claim). (1)

Resolution of brachial plexus palsy following birth trauma stroke

A 14-day-old baby boy suffered from a brachial plexus (nerve) injury following a traumatic Caesarean birth.

The child suffered from lack of muscle tone (hypotonicity) of the right arm that was so severe that his arm was virtually non-functional.

Chiropractic correction/adjustment was made of the atlas (C1) vertebra. His right arm muscle tone began to immediately improve. The parents were “astonished!” Two days later, at the next chiropractic visit, the muscle tone in his arm was almost normal (about 90%) compared to the left side. Four days following, his right arm was at 100%. (2)

Complaints following surgerystroke

A 37-year-old man complained of nausea, fatigue, gastric reflux, dizziness and migraines following surgical removal of a vestibular schwannoma (a rare benign tumor on the 8th cranial nerve that leads from the brain to the inner ear).

He was adjusted six times in five weeks. One month after beginning care, he had much improvement in nausea, fatigue and gastric reflux. Dizziness and migraines completely resolved. (3)

Coffee Is Good for You

Up to 25 Cups of Coffee a Day Is Safe for Heart, Says New Study

A British Heart Foundation funded study found that drinking five cups of coffee a day, and even up to 25, was no worse for your arteries than drinking less than one cup a day. Further, coffee won’t increase stroke or heart attack risk. (11)

Drinking Coffee Could Lead to A Longer Life, Scientist Says

Whether it’s caffeinated or decaffeinated, coffee is associated with lower mortality, which suggests the association is not tied to caffeine.

Drinking coffee was associated with lower risk of death due to heart disease, cancer, stroke, diabetes, and kidney disease. People who consumed a cup of coffee a day were 12 percent less likely to die compared to those who didn’t drink coffee. This association was even stronger for those who drank two to three cups a day – 18 percent reduced chance of death.

A child with headaches, autism, ADHD and OCD11 boy

An 11-year-old boy diagnosed with autism, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and headaches affecting his school attendance and sleep was brought in for chiropractic care.

A chiropractic analysis showed that he had subluxations in his left hip, sacrum, occiput (back of the skull) and neck and mid back vertebral subluxations (C1, C2 and T8).

The boy’s subluxations and structural distortions were addressed. His headache symptoms improved as did his behavioral problems and his quality of life. (1)

Meniere’s Disease55 man

A 55-year-old man had been diagnosed with Meniere’s disease. He was experiencing constant dizziness, occasional vertigo (sensation of spinning), earache, ear noise and occasional deafness. His symptoms continued to worsen over eight years.

The patient was evaluated using chiropractic methods and found to have a subluxation in his upper neck (C1 vertebral subluxation).

He had his first chiropractic visit and adjustment and had an immediate improvement. After two weeks his condition completely resolved. (2)

Chronic migraines, pins-and-needles and disability35 man

A 35-year old man with a history of sports injuries presented himself at a chiropractic clinic. His complaints included neck pain and stiffness, pins and needles into his left shoulder, low back pain and difficulty sleeping. The patient had a previous history of chronic headaches and migraines.

Over an eight-week period he received 24 chiropractic adjustments for vertebral subluxation correction. In addition to resolution of his pain, the patient-centered outcome assessments revealed improved physical, social and psychological functioning and decreased disability. There were improvements in cervical curve and reduction of anterior head carriage. (4)

Pubic pain in a pregnant womanpregnant case study

A 28-year-old who was in her 20th week of pregnancy was suffering from symphysis pubic dysfunction. The pubic bones are in front of the pelvis. She was experiencing pain at the pubic bone region and in both inner thighs for the prior three months.

She had one previous pregnancy and had experienced mild pubic pain, but with this pregnancy the pain was much worse.

Her spine and structural system were analyzed using chiropractic procedures. Her upper neck vertebra (C1), coccyx (tail bone) and right inferior pubic bone were found to be subluxated. All were corrected using chiropractic techniques and after three visits her pain abated and she had full mobility. She felt fine during the rest of her pregnancy and delivered a healthy baby boy. After birth (postpartum), she reported greater comfort while walking. (5)

Researching Chiropractic: Rheumatoid arthritis, epilepsy, VBAC

Chiropractic clinical case histories have been a regular feature of our patient newsletter since its inception. There seems to be no limit to the health problems that respond to chiropractic care. How many people suffering, on drugs, facing a life of limitation could be helped by chiropractic care?

Probably most of them.

Rheumatoid arthritis, headaches and neck pain.

A 59-year-old man suffering from headaches, neck pain, and rheumatoid arthritis began chiropractic care. Over a period of 10½ weeks he received eight chiropractic adjustments. He reported complete resolution of his headaches and neck pain following the first adjustment. In addition, his rheumatoid arthritis symptoms decreased to such an extent that he was able to discontinue his medication. (1)

headache

Post traumatic epilepsy (PTE).

PTE sufferers have recurrent seizures following an injury to the brain. These injuries are often the result of a traumatic brain injury (TBI) or a brain operation.  A 19-year-old man was diagnosed with post traumatic epilepsy. He had a traumatic brain injury six months prior to coming to a chiropractor’s office.

His vertebral subluxations as revealed by X-ray were corrected. Almost immediately the frequency of his seizures began decreasing and then completely resolved. Additionally, the headaches and dizziness from which he suffered also improved. He remained seizure free in a 10-year follow-up. (2)

epilepsy

Vaginal birth of twins after a cesarean (VBAC).

A 34-year-old woman 16 weeks pregnant with twin girls began chiropractic care. Her chief complaint was severe left sacroiliac, hip and buttock pain. She had been suffering for 3 weeks. She also mentioned that she wished to have a natural childbirth since having had a pregnancy and cesarean birth two years prior.

Over a period of 19 weeks she received 18 adjustments. Her sacroiliac, hip and buttock pain abated and at 36 weeks’ gestation, she successfully delivered twins via vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC). (3)

Researching Chiropractic: Asthma and Concussion

Do you know someone suffering from asthma or a concussion? Chiropractic could help!

Chiropractic clinical case histories have been a regular feature of our patient newsletter since its inception and have included papers published in various bio-medical and chiropractic journals.

There seems to be no end to the physical and psychological benefits of chiropractic care.

That is because chiropractic does not “treat” any particular condition. Chiropractic care “treats” or more accurately, “corrects” a serious interference to brain, nervous system and energy function known as the subluxation.

No matter what condition you (or a loved one) may have, you will always function better when free from subluxations. Chiropractors are uniquely trained to locate and correct subluxations. Enjoy this month’s cases and see more next month.

Asthma and chiropractic6 year old boy

This case report is of a 6-year-old male presenting with a history of asthma that was diagnosed when the patient was 4 years old. His mother sought chiropractic care to help control and alleviate his symptoms that would worsen depending on the season.

A total of six chiropractic adjustments were rendered to the boy in conjunction with the recommendation of daily probiotic and omega 3 supplementation. The patient no longer needed his daily inhaler dose of Albuterol® after having received his first adjustment and was able to sleep undisturbed through the night without experiencing flare-ups.

Concussion in a 23-year-old femaleheadache

A 23-year-old female presented for chiropractic care five months after a slip and fall that resulted in a concussion. She had vertigo and a history of headaches that were made worse by the concussion. The vertigo occurred immediately following the trauma.

She received upper cervical specific chiropractic care and her symptoms resolved.

Chiropractic, lower back pain and health maintenance care

A comparison was made between chiropractors, medical doctors, and physical therapists for people who suffered from low back pain. The authors concluded: “In work related lower back pain chiropractic health maintenance had less recurrence of disability than patients treated by MDs or PTs.” Also: “Chiropractic patients had fewer surgeries, used fewer opioids (pain killers) and had lower costs.” Interestingly, if a chiropractic patient did have a recurrence it occurred on average 29 days later than those who saw PTs or MDs.”

Overall, chiropractic patients got better sooner than patients of MDs and PTs. “No health maintenance care is generally as good as chiropractic care” and perhaps most revealing is this: “Chiropractors might be preventing some of their patients from receiving procedures of unproven cost utility value or dubious efficacy.”

Researching Chiropractic: Food allergies, Sleep apnea & Plagiocephaly

Chiropractic clinical case histories have been a regular feature of our patient newsletter since its inception. There seems to be no limit to the health problems that respond to chiropractic care. How many people suffering, on drugs, facing a life of limitation could be helped by chiropractic care?

Probably most of them.

Food allergies and other complaints. nut allergy

An 8-year-old girl who suffered from hip pain for six months and internal foot rotation for three years was brought in for care. She also suffered from peanut, pecan and walnut allergies. After thirty-eight weeks of chiropractic care, her hip pain cleared up, her internal foot rotation was improved and her allergies had dramatically decreased. (1)

Sleep apnea and chiropractic care. sleep apnea

Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is described as loud snoring, choking and awakening due to gasping that occurs especially during dreaming and may repeat all night. It is believed to be due to a loss of tone in the upper throat muscles. People with OSA have a greater chance of getting into car accidents (because of lack of sleep) and a greater risk of heart attack and stroke. CPAP therapy, placing a mask over the face, is a popular treatment (not a cure). Even throat surgery has been used.

In this case, a 51-year-old man suffering from OSA for eight years began chiropractic care. He began to see improvement after three visits and after 33 visits his OSA completely resolved. (2)

Resolution of plagiocephaly in a 4-month-old male.

Plagiocephaly (Greek for oblique head) is a common skull deformity seen at birth in as many as 61% of deliveries. They are often the product of stress applied on the skull during difficult delivery associated with forceps or vacuum-assisted delivery. baby headConventional treatment methods for plagiocephaly include and are not limited to skull-molding helmets, osteopathy, physical and positional therapy, botox injections into the muscles and surgery.

In this case, a 4-month old baby boy had plagiocephaly and in addition could barely move his neck. Chiropractic examination revealed subluxations at the upper neck (C1) and the sacrum. They were corrected. Improved neck motion was observed immediately and the plagiocephaly completely resolved. (3)
