Researching Chiropractic: Blood Pressure and Cyclical Vomiting Syndrome

Chiropractic clinical case histories have been a regular feature of our patient newsletter since its inception. There seems to be no limit to the health problems that respond positively to chiropractic care. How many people suffering, reliant on medication and drugs, and facing a life of limitation could be helped by chiropractic care?

Probably most of them.

Blood pressure, pulse rate, and chiropractic

A randomized controlled study divided subjects (ages 18-100, two-thirds female) into three groups: chiropractic care, sham adjustment, and control. Blood pressure and anxiety were measured before and after intervention.

Only the chiropractic group showed statistically significant decreases in both systolic and diastolic blood pressure. The placebo and control groups showed no significant changes. (1)

Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome

A six-year-old boy with Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome, characterized by recurring episodes of intense vomiting, sought treatment after suffering for three years. His episodes, seemingly triggered by antibiotics, involved vomiting every 10-20 minutes for four hours. Various medications prescribed by specialists proved ineffective.[2]

After receiving chiropractic adjustments for multiple spinal subluxations, he experienced only one minor episode. At his five-month follow-up, his condition had completely resolved.

Researching Chiropractic: Fatigue & Shortness of Breath; Irregular Bowel Movements

Chiropractic clinical case histories have been a regular feature of our patient newsletter since its inception. The health problems that respond positively to chiropractic care are endless. How many people suffering, reliant on medication and drugs, and facing a life of limitation could be helped by chiropractic care?    Probably most of them.

Fatigue, Shortness of Breath, and a Rapid Heartbeat

A 22-year-old man experienced fatigue, shortness of breath, and a rapid heartbeat during mild physical activity. Previously diagnosed with arrhythmia during a high school physical exam, he sought chiropractic care, where he received spinal adjustments. His progress was tracked using ECG and HRV monitoring. After eight adjustments, he noticed reduced symptoms and could run short distances without excessive strain. (1)

Irregular Bowel Movements

An 8-year-old girl with a history of irregular bowel movements and fecal incontinence came in for chiropractic care. Prior efforts with potty training, laxatives, and stool softeners had not resolved the issue. After two weeks of chiropractic treatment, improvements were observed. Following six weeks of adjustments, her fecal incontinence was completely resolved, and she experienced no accidents for the first time in her life. (2)

Researching Chiropractic: Torticollis, Sports-related Concussion

Researching Chiropractic

Chiropractic clinical case histories have been a regular feature of our patient newsletter since its inception. There seems to be no limit to the health problems that respond positively to chiropractic care. How many people suffering, reliant on medication and drugs, and facing a life of limitation could be helped by chiropractic care?

Probably most of them.

Resolution of Torticollis, Breastfeeding Difficulties, and Cranial Distortion

Chiropractic care was sought for a 13-day-old baby boy with torticollis, difficulty breastfeeding on his mother’s left breast, and cranial distortion. The baby received chiropractic treatment for a period of six weeks, with a total of seven visits. As a result, the baby’s initial complaints were resolved.

Sports-related concussion

A 20-year-old male athlete visited a chiropractor complaining of a headache, feeling nauseous, experiencing dizziness, and having double vision. He had previously suffered a concussion related to sports activities 16 days ago, which marked his third concussion within five years. The symptoms were diagnosed as “post-concussion syndrome.”

The chiropractor conducted an analysis and performed adjustments to address subluxations. Following the first adjustment, the patient reported a significant 50% reduction in symptoms, instilling a sense of hope and confidence in the effectiveness of chiropractic care. Over the course of five weeks, the patient had a total of nine visits and experienced complete relief after one week of care. The symptoms did not reoccur throughout the entire treatment plan.

Researching Chiropractic: Constipation, Cerebral Palsy, Ear Conditions and more

Chiropractic clinical case histories have been a regular feature of our patient newsletter since its inception. There seems to be no limit to the health problems that respond positively to chiropractic care. How many people suffering, reliant on medication and drugs, and facing a life of limitation could be helped by chiropractic care?

Probably most of them.

Constipation

The patient, a 54-year-old woman, had been experiencing constipation for the past eight months, with less than three bowel movements per week. Along with this, she also complained of bloating in her stomach but without any pain. Chiropractic adjustments were performed on her C1, C2, T6, L4, and sacroiliac joints to address any vertebral subluxations. After receiving one month of care, the patient was able to have at least one bowel movement per day. (1)

Cerebral Palsy in an infant

An infant diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy was brought to a chiropractic clinic at the age of 3½ weeks. The baby boy had suffered from encephalopathy, a brain damage caused by low oxygen during birth. It took 30 minutes for the ambulance to arrive, and the infant was already 70 minutes old when he reached the hospital. The doctors had informed the parents that their child might be confined to a wheelchair for the rest of his life. However, after starting chiropractic treatment twice a week, adjustments were made to his sacrum, atlas, and cranium. As he progressed, the frequency of visits reduced to once a month over a period of five years. The patient’s mother also provided physical therapy sessions at home. As a result, the patient can now walk, talk, and function like any other normal child, although with slight developmental delays. The patient is no longer wheelchair-bound. (2)

Ear Conditions

Five individuals, ranging from infancy to five years old, were battling with persistent otitis media despite having been on antibiotics for no less than half a year. Each of these patients then embarked on a regime involving chiropractic care. Remarkably, they all showed signs of recovery within the time frame of 3 days to 8 weeks, with the results being highly satisfactory. Among the five, three patients had misalignment at the atlas vertebra; one manifested a dislocation at the occipital bone, while another had both atlas and axis vertebrae out of place. In addition to this, comprehensive spine adjustments were performed on them. [3]

Sciatica and Back Pain

A 30-year-old woman suffered from upper back pain and sciatica. She also had scoliosis and significant pelvic rotation. Medical interventions such as physical therapy failed to make significant improvements to her complaints.

Vertebral subluxations were found at the levels of C2, T6, and Right Ilium.

She was seen twice a week for six weeks and once a week for six weeks. After care, she reported a resolution of sciatica, a significant decrease in upper back pain, and marked improvements in neck and lower back ranges of motion. [4]

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a condition that affects a 28-year-old woman.

It is classified as a disorder with an unknown cause and is considered to be incurable. Apart from RA, she also experienced symptoms such as fatigue, headaches, dizziness, pain in the toes, and occasional double vision. To manage her symptoms, she was taking 500mg of NaproxenT multiple times a day and using moist heat on the affected joint.

After receiving care for 12 weeks, she no longer needed to take the prescription medications Methotrexate or Naproxen for her joint pain. Her symptoms of fatigue, swollen and painful joints, difficulty sleeping, headaches, dizziness, blurred or double vision, chest pain, frequent colds or flu, and digestive problems had significantly decreased.

At the time of this case study, she continues to receive care for her condition. (1)

A woman who is 58 years old is dealing with Parkinson’s disease. She experiences tremors in her right hand at rest, weakness in her right arm, and sluggish body movements. The diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease was made one year before she started chiropractic care.

Over one year of care, she has seen significant improvements. Her muscle strength has increased, her range of motion in her neck has improved, and her neck and upper back muscles have become more relaxed. She has also noticed improvements in her resting tremors, bradykinesia (slowness of movement), and weakness in her right arm. As a result, she has resumed daily walks for exercise. (2)

RESEARCHING CHIROPRACTIC: Migraines, Hypnic Headaches, Ear Infections, Tic Douloureux

Migraine and Hypnic Headaches.

For 15 years, a 59-year-old woman had been experiencing migraines and hypnic headaches, which occur during sleep, along with nausea and skin rashes. Migraines are a significant global health concern with a prevalence of 10%, ranking seventh in leading causes of disability. Hypnic headaches, however, are less common. Despite taking prescription drugs RelpaxT, TylenolT, and receiving massages for her migraines, the patient found no relief. It’s worth noting that the patient’s mother also experienced the same issues during menopause. After three months of twice-a-week chiropractic care, followed by six weeks of once-a-week visits, the patient found relief from her headaches and experienced additional health improvements. (1)

Neck pain, Ear Infections, and headaches in a young girl.

A 9½-year-old girl went to a chiropractic clinic because of chronic ear infections, neck pain, and headaches. Upon examination of her cervical spine, the doctors found hyperlordosis, hypertonicity of paraspinal musculature, lymphadenopathy, decreased ROM, positive orthopedic tests, and chiropractic subluxations. She was scheduled to receive three treatments per week for three weeks, and afterward, her otolaryngologist reported a 95% reduction in her hearing loss. Her scheduled tympanostomy tube surgery was canceled due to her improved condition. (2)

Tic douloureux.

A 62-year-old woman had suffered from an intense, persistent, and often disabling form of facial pain known as “tic douloureux,” or Trigeminal neuralgia, for two years. Commonly referred to as the “suicide disease” due to its extreme pain, the woman had endured three separate car accidents in the past 27 years before the onset of symptoms; however, they did not appear until after a dental procedure on a wisdom tooth on the right side of her face. To alleviate her suffering, the woman had tried numerous prescription drugs and alternative supplements prescribed by multiple physicians and specialists, spending over $9,000 of her own money in the process. After receiving 26 chiropractic adjustments, the patient reported a significant reduction in the frequency and duration of her pain. (3)

Researching Chiropractic: Migraines, Drop Attacks, & Seizures

Researching Chiropractic. How many people who are suffering, reliant on medication on drugs, and facing a life of limitation could be helped by chiropractic care?  Probably most of them.

Migraines in a 16-year-old Girl

A 16-year-old girl had been complaining of migraines since kindergarten.  She was experiencing migraines 1-2 times per week, each attack lasting approximately 2-3 hours. Under medical care, she had an MRI (magnetic resonance imaging), a CT scan (computer axial tomography), and a dental consultation. Nothing was found.

She consulted with a chiropractor. Chiropractic analysis revealed an atlas (C-1) subluxation. The patient received five adjustments to the atlas. She was able to stop using medications as her headaches reduced to 2-4 per month. (1)

Drop Attacks on a 23-year-old Man

A 23-year-old male complaining of drop attacks and daily nausea, vomiting, severe headaches, and back pain for five years began chiropractic care.

After one month of care, the patient reported a resolution of drop attacks, daily vomiting, and other symptoms. (2)

Seizures and Delays in Cognitive Development in a Two-Year-Old Boy

A 2-year-old boy suffered from seizures, behavioral disturbances, and cognitive developmental delays following a head trauma.

He was experiencing 1-3 seizures per week and sometimes up to 3 seizures per day. In addition, he was combative, angry, and uncooperative with his parents and had a developmental delay in his language use.

His parents brought the child in for chiropractic care fifteen months after his injury. A chiropractic examination revealed a subluxation of the C1 (atlas) vertebra. The patient had a total of seven visits over a five-and-a-half-month period.

There was an improvement and eventual cessation of his seizures and an improvement in the patient’s behavior and cognitive development. (3)

Researching Chiropractic: Tourette’s, Ear Infections, Meniere’s Disease

Researching Chiropractic. How many people who are suffering, reliant on medication on drugs, and facing a life of limitation could be helped by chiropractic care?  Probably most of them.

Tourette’s Syndrome in a nine-year-old boy

The child suffered from Tourette’s Syndrome, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), depression, asthma, insomnia, and headaches since age 7.

Forceps were used during his delivery. He was fully vaccinated. His medications included AlbuterolT, DepakoteT, WellbutrinT, and AdderallT.

Chiropractic care corrected and stabilized the patient’s subluxation. After six weeks of care, all six conditions were no longer present, and all medications were discontinued, except for a half-dose of WellbutrinT.

After five months of care, all symptoms remained absent. (1)

Head tilt, ear infections, and other problems in a seven-month-old boy

This is the case of a 7-month-old boy with significant head tilt from birth, ear infections, flattening of the left side of his face, spitting up 15 times per day, projectile vomiting (about once each week), and muscle spasms. The child cried frequently and rarely laughed.

Chiropractic adjustments were performed three times a week for three months. After five months of chiropractic care, the child’s head tilt and associated muscle spasms were absent, dramatically improving the child’s general demeanor. Regurgitation became much less frequent, with some residual facial asymmetry remaining. (2)

Meniere’s disease (MD) in a forty-eight-year-old woman

Forty-eight-year-old woman, a retired registered nurse, was diagnosed with right unilateral Meniere’s Disease (MD) in 1995 that started going bilateral in 1998. Her symptoms included multiple vertigo episodes with nausea and vomiting (including drop attacks), low-frequency hearing loss, tinnitus, and pain. Other MD symptoms include dizziness, imbalance, hearing distortion, hyperacusis, nystagmus, BPPV, brain fog, severe sweating, severe depression, anxiety with panic attacks, IBS, TMJ dysfunction, migraines, headaches, chronic fatigue, eustachian tube dysfunction, neck, and low back pain.

Chiropractic care consisted of twelve visits over six days. All her complaints were resolved except hearing loss though it did improve. She returned for a reevaluation four years later. All of her complaints continued to resolve except for partial hearing loss. (3)

Researching Chiropractic: Fibromyalgia, Scoliosis, & Meniere’s Disease

Chiropractic clinical case histories have been a regular feature of our patient newsletter since its inception. There is no limit to the health problems that respond positively to chiropractic care.

Fibromyalgia in a 64-year-old

A 64-year-old woman with fibromyalgia was medically diagnosed 6 years before beginning chiropractic care. In addition, she complained of sleep apnea, loss of coordination, glaucoma, degenerative disc disease, and changes in bowel habits.

Using X-ray and other tools, an upper cervical subluxation was discovered at her atlas (C1) vertebrae.

She received upper cervical care for three months. At the time of this study, she reported 80% relief from symptoms and an improvement in energy level. (1)

Scoliosis in a 10-year-old girl

This was the patient’s first time under chiropractic care. Analysis revealed a 16.2-degree right thoracolumbar scoliosis, measured from her 12th thoracic vertebra to her 6th lumbar vertebra.

She was adjusted for three months. X-rays, taken at 3 months, showed a 28.4% improvement in her scoliosis (a decrease of 4.6 degrees). (2)

Meniere’s Disease

A forty-eight-year-old woman, a retired registered nurse, was diagnosed with right unilateral Meniere’s Disease (MD). Her symptoms included many episodes of dizziness with nausea and vomiting as well as drop attacks. She also had low-frequency hearing loss, tinnitus, and a sense of ear fullness with pain.

Chiropractic care consisted of twelve visits over six days. She returned for a reevaluation four months later. All her complaints were relieved, except hearing loss, though it did improve. (3)

Researching Chiropractic: Hearing Loss, Speech Difficulty, Acid Reflux, and more

Chiropractic clinical case histories have been a regular feature of our patient newsletter since its inception. How many people suffering, on drugs, and facing a life of limitation could be helped by chiropractic care?   Probably most of them.

Hearing loss and Speech Difficulty

A boy with mild to moderate hearing loss was falling behind in class. As a result, his speech was difficult to understand. MDs recommended tympanostomy (ear) tubes to be surgically inserted. The parent decided to see if chiropractic care would help.

The parents brought in their child for chiropractic care. Subluxations were located and corrected. After two adjustments his hearing deficits resolved In addition, his speech and school performance greatly improved.

Acid Reflux in a Two-Month-Old

A two-month-old baby had severe acid reflux and constipation since birth. Her pediatrician prescribed Prilosec for her acid reflux which did not help. The infant was unable to eat without spitting up, unable to sleep because of pain, and was visibly straining and in pain while trying to defecate.

The patient was brought in for chiropractic care. She had 12 chiropractic visits over 6 weeks. Her acid reflux, constipation, and sleep difficulties were completely resolved.

Seizures in a 3-year-old

A 3-year-old had a history of absence seizures (staring into space for about 15-20 seconds). He had up to five seizures a day since age one. After age two he began to have clonic seizures where he would stare off and his arms would quickly jerk back and forth bend at the elbows and go and forth across his body for 15-20 seconds.

He also exhibited self-aggressive behavior when he would hit his head with his fists 5-10 times a day. The parents could not recall any trauma that their son may have experienced in the past however the child was fully vaccinated. Seizures are reported as an adverse effect of vaccination.

A chiropractic examination revealed the patient had an atlas subluxation. The child received a total of 10 spinal adjustments over the eight-week period. After his first adjustment, he experienced only two clonic seizures per day. At eight weeks, his parents reported that their son was having one absence seizure every other day (down from five a day) and his self-aggressive behaviors had stopped altogether.

Scoliosis is a 5-year-old

A 5-year-old girl with thoracolumbar (mid and lower back) scoliosis began chiropractic care. In addition to scoliosis, she suffered from poor sleep and headaches.

The child’s spine was analyzed; vertebral subluxations were located in her cervical (neck). She received adjustments to eliminate the subluxations.

Twenty-eight days after beginning care, her thoracolumbar scoliosis decreased from 130 degrees to 00 degrees. The patient received no traction, nor did she perform any corrective exercises. There was also a reduction in headaches and an improvement in sleep.

 Breastfeeding, Other Difficulties, and Chiropractic

13 case reports, 5 articles, and 3 literature reviews were reviewed.

Chiropractic care was reported to help many infant nursing and other difficulties such as problems with latching, reflux, regurgitation, poor sleep, excessive gas, vomiting, refusal to nurse, cranial plagiocephaly, and torticollis, excessive crying.

Difficulty with breastfeeding and infant digestive and other issues affect all socioeconomic groups and cultures. Chiropractic care provides numerous benefits for an infant’s health as well as for the mother in the long and short-term.

Difficulty conceiving a child

A 29-year-old woman with a 3-year history of infertility began chiropractic care. She had failed attempts with intrauterine insemination and in vitro fertilization. She had taken estrogen modulators for 5 months clomiphene citrate (Clomid) with no success. Additionally, she reported experiencing 3-4 headaches per week. She had been in a major car accident five years prior.

Vertebral subluxations were found at different segments in the spine. Adjustments were made at the sites of vertebral subluxations. During the course of the first two months of care, her headaches resolved. After a later visit to an obstetrician, her pregnancy was confirmed.  Vertebral subluxations were adjusted throughout the remainder of her pregnancy, and she was able to have a successful vaginal birth.

After multiple failed conventional medical treatments, 16 chiropractic adjustments over a span of 55 days resulted in a once-infertile female being able to conceive a child and carry the baby to term.
