Latest News from Charmaine: October 2018

April 2018Apologies for this being published a bit late. Stay tuned for the November newsletter coming out shortly!

Well, the first part of October was an exquisite mix of the weirdest weather, and when you throw in the likes of the Grand Ledge Marching Band Festival in totally drenching rain and Color Cruise in very cool weather along with a couple of really HOT, muggy days….. the old wives tales of the weather is responsible for all the hacking and sniffling come roaring out the closet.

Please, Please let’s understand that colds and sniffles are fundamentally caused by an out of balance diet, coupled with stress that allows the body’s immune system to be vulnerable to opportunistic bugs that are floating around year round waiting for a weakness to create a space for them to attack.

I know the media is currently agog with news about the new flu’ season and the need to get vaccinated.  But honestly, if you get checked to keep your spine in line, eat your veggies and fruit (and lots of them), reduce sugar, eliminate sodas, and DECREASE your stress levels and INCREASE your exercise— you have a great chance to come out unscathed at the end of winter.

What No One Ever Told You About the Flu and Your Immune System

  By Dr. Navaz Habibflu

This article was originally published on The Hearty Soul.

There is no such thing as Flu season.

Contrary to popular belief, Influenza viruses do not go on vacation in the summer and check back in with us in the fall. The viruses are opportunistic, which means that they are simply waiting to attack us when our immune systems become weaker. This year, let’s start Immune Booster season, making our immune systems strong year round so that the opportunistic bad bacteria and viruses don’t have as much of a chance to spread.

We have all heard of the immune system. This system is the second line of defense that our bodies have to invaders (the first line is our skin and gut lining). If an invader gets through our skin or through our gut lining and into our internal environments, then the immune system is activated to protect us from the effects of these invaders.

Our immune system is constantly active, fighting off potential invaders. A well-functioning and BALANCED immune system is very important in our overall health and well-being. If our immune system is weak, invaders such as viruses and bacteria can get in and spread, causing infections. If the immune system is too overworked, it can make mistakes and start attacking our own cells. This is called autoimmune disease, and can include conditions like Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Type 1 Diabetes and Celiac disease.

Imagine for a moment that the immune system is the security staff at an important government building. Lazy security personnel that don’t do their job correctly could let invaders enter, which can cause problems for the government – in the same way, a weak immune system cannot stop all the opportunistic viruses and bacteria from potentially causing infections in our sinuses, lungs, blood vessels etc.

If the security staff are too overwhelmed and not well trained, they may start to incorrectly attack internal problems in the government building. This would cause chaos inside the government building leading to many issues internally. In the same way, autoimmune disease is our defense system, fighting against our own cells, leading to chronic inflammatory conditions.

So how do we make sure that our immune system is working well and is balanced?

Not so well known fact: 70-80% of your entire immune system is located in your gut lining. When the immune system is not functioning correctly, the cause can often be attributed to the gut and our digestive function. Improper gut function is a common cause of immune system imbalance.

Here are some steps to fix our gut health, and boost our immune system function:

  1. Eat Healthy, REAL Foods

These foods include lots of vegetables (leafy greens, broccoli, cauliflower, bell peppers, zucchini, Brussels sprouts, sweet potato and squashes) and some fruits (high in antioxidants)    Aim for 3-4 servings of fruit and 4+ servings of vegetables daily.

  1. Drink plenty of CLEAN Fluids

Water is the most important fluid that our body requires. In the colder months, a nice glass of water, a warm herbal or green tea or homemade soup or broth is a great way to get important fluids and stay warm. If possible, filter your water and avoid high sugar fruit juices and soda.

  1. Avoid Sugar and Processed Foods

Sugar and processed foods which contain sweeteners have been shown to depress the immune system for hours after they are ingested. This means staying away from candy, chocolates, cake and holiday sweets as they can, and will cause immune system depression. Also cut down on gluten and dairy products, which have been shown to cause leaky gut syndrome and dysfunction in the gut lining.

  1. Add a little Spice to your Life!

There are certain spices that help to boost your immune system function. These spices include garlic, ginger, oregano and turmeric. Garlic and onions actually have

  1. Have Protein at every meal

Proteins are the building blocks of the body, including your immune and detoxification systems. Organic, clean and lean animal protein as well as plant-based protein (legumes, nuts, seeds) are important to have at each meal and can even be a great snack option.

  1. Get Plenty of High Quality SLEEP

Sleep is our bodies way of repairing and restoring our body to optimal function. Our terrible sleep habits are often contributing to high emotional stress levels as well as improper function of our bodily defenses. Try to get 7-8 hours of high quality sleep and awake feeling rested and ready to go!

  1. Get Regular Exercise

30-45 minutes of mild to moderate exercise has been shown to help boost immune system function. Avoid overexerting yourself as high stress exercise can decrease immune function.

CDC Admits There is No Science Behind the Flu Vaccine

Skip the Flu Vaccine This Yearflu vaccine

How do you feel about the flu vaccine?

Through all of her years of medical training Cammy Benton, MD said the only thing she was taught with regard to vaccines were that they were “safe and effective” and to discard the vaccine inserts, as they were all “lawyer jargon.”

But she began to ask questions about the science behind the flu shot, and even asked a senior CDC official about it at an event. She found no credible studies backing up the science behind the flu shot.

When she called the CDC about it, the CDC admitted there was no science confirming the effectiveness of the flu vaccine, it was simply “all we have” to combat the flu season.

Dr. Benton then asked why hospitals were not requiring ALL medical personnel to wear face masks during the flu season, since the CDC was admitting the flu vaccine was not effective.

The person at the CDC hung up and the next Monday Dr. Benton was presented with a four-month severance pay. She states that this was the best “vacation” she could have received at that time, because she spent every day studying about vaccines.

Greetings all,Latest news

Well we really need to accept the fact that Fall is upon us.  The cooler weather is making for better sleeping and, I must admit, working out is more pleasant.

Having set a State record at the Mi Senior Olympics in my age group,  I am now working towards my final meet for the year at the end of October…I need goals to keep me motivated ..how about you??

The farmers market are currently full to the brim with the most amazing produce, so happy canning if you do that, and just enjoy all the deliciousness of eating as close to home grown as you can get, with all the attendant vital goodness the fruit and veggies offer.

Remember, there is NO FLU SEASON contrary to medical advertising, there is usually just a decrease of exercise, lack of hydration, lack of fresh air and far too many carbs all working together to compromise the immune system !!!

Stay healthy: don’t get a flu shot!

We are approaching flu shot season again. Drug companies spend millions advertising the not only useless but dangerous flu shot that causes brain and nervous system damage. flu shot

Did You Know?

Not many people know this, the media doesn’t report it, but the U.S. government records vaccine injuries and deaths and the flu vaccine has been linked to both.

Government records show the flu vaccine kills and damages more people than all the other vaccines combined. The mercury in the shot has been linked to Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, MS and autism.

There is no proof that pregnant women, children, babies or adults (especially asthmatics) get any benefit from it. Send this information to those you care about.

The Flu Shot: useless and dangerous

Anthony Morris, Ph.D. former Chief Vaccine Control Officer, US Food and Drug Administration and flu vaccine expert:

There is no evidence that any influenza vaccine thus far developed is effective in preventing or mitigating any attack of influenza. The producers of these vaccines know that they are worthless, but they go on selling them anyway

Colds and flu prevent cancer

For thousands of years healers have viewed colds, flu, fevers and skin eruptions as some of the most powerful weapons your body has for cleansing, detoxification and self-healing. These symptoms are uncomfortable but provide natural benefits no drug or vaccine can give you. For example:

Those with carcinomas of the stomach, colon, rectum, breast, and ovary … and controls (with no history of cancer) were interviewed. A history of common colds or influenza prior to the interview was found to be associated with a decreased cancer risk. (1)

Subjects who reported a history of infectious diseases (e.g., colds, flu) showed a 30% reduction in risk [of brain tumor]. (2)

Do not suppress your fever or other symptoms with drugs that interfere with your healing; you may stay sick longer:

Taking aspirin or TylenolT for the flu could prolong your illness by up to 3½   days. (3)
