RESEARCHING CHIROPRACTIC: Migraines, Hypnic Headaches, Ear Infections, Tic Douloureux

Chiropractic clinical case histories have been a regular feature of our patient newsletter since its inception. There seems to be no limit to the health problems that respond positively to chiropractic care. How many people suffering, reliant on medication and drugs, and facing a life of limitation could be helped by chiropractic care? Probably most of them.

Migraine and Hypnic Headaches.

For 15 years, a 59-year-old woman had been experiencing migraines and hypnic headaches, which occur during sleep, along with nausea and skin rashes. Migraines are a significant global health concern with a prevalence of 10%, ranking seventh in leading causes of disability. Hypnic headaches, however, are less common. Despite taking prescription drugs RelpaxT, TylenolT, and receiving massages for her migraines, the patient found no relief. It’s worth noting that the patient’s mother also experienced the same issues during menopause. After three months of twice-a-week chiropractic care, followed by six weeks of once-a-week visits, the patient found relief from her headaches and experienced additional health improvements. (1)

Neck pain, Ear Infections, and headaches in a young girl.

A 9½-year-old girl went to a chiropractic clinic because of chronic ear infections, neck pain, and headaches. Upon examination of her cervical spine, the doctors found hyperlordosis, hypertonicity of paraspinal musculature, lymphadenopathy, decreased ROM, positive orthopedic tests, and chiropractic subluxations. She was scheduled to receive three treatments per week for three weeks, and afterward, her otolaryngologist reported a 95% reduction in her hearing loss. Her scheduled tympanostomy tube surgery was canceled due to her improved condition. (2)

Tic douloureux.

A 62-year-old woman had suffered from an intense, persistent, and often disabling form of facial pain known as “tic douloureux,” or Trigeminal neuralgia, for two years. Commonly referred to as the “suicide disease” due to its extreme pain, the woman had endured three separate car accidents in the past 27 years before the onset of symptoms; however, they did not appear until after a dental procedure on a wisdom tooth on the right side of her face. To alleviate her suffering, the woman had tried numerous prescription drugs and alternative supplements prescribed by multiple physicians and specialists, spending over $9,000 of her own money in the process. After receiving 26 chiropractic adjustments, the patient reported a significant reduction in the frequency and duration of her pain. (3)

Researching Chiropractic: Tourette’s, Ear Infections, Meniere’s Disease

Researching Chiropractic. How many people who are suffering, reliant on medication on drugs, and facing a life of limitation could be helped by chiropractic care?  Probably most of them.

Tourette’s Syndrome in a nine-year-old boy

The child suffered from Tourette’s Syndrome, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), depression, asthma, insomnia, and headaches since age 7.

Forceps were used during his delivery. He was fully vaccinated. His medications included AlbuterolT, DepakoteT, WellbutrinT, and AdderallT.

Chiropractic care corrected and stabilized the patient’s subluxation. After six weeks of care, all six conditions were no longer present, and all medications were discontinued, except for a half-dose of WellbutrinT.

After five months of care, all symptoms remained absent. (1)

Head tilt, ear infections, and other problems in a seven-month-old boy

This is the case of a 7-month-old boy with significant head tilt from birth, ear infections, flattening of the left side of his face, spitting up 15 times per day, projectile vomiting (about once each week), and muscle spasms. The child cried frequently and rarely laughed.

Chiropractic adjustments were performed three times a week for three months. After five months of chiropractic care, the child’s head tilt and associated muscle spasms were absent, dramatically improving the child’s general demeanor. Regurgitation became much less frequent, with some residual facial asymmetry remaining. (2)

Meniere’s disease (MD) in a forty-eight-year-old woman

Forty-eight-year-old woman, a retired registered nurse, was diagnosed with right unilateral Meniere’s Disease (MD) in 1995 that started going bilateral in 1998. Her symptoms included multiple vertigo episodes with nausea and vomiting (including drop attacks), low-frequency hearing loss, tinnitus, and pain. Other MD symptoms include dizziness, imbalance, hearing distortion, hyperacusis, nystagmus, BPPV, brain fog, severe sweating, severe depression, anxiety with panic attacks, IBS, TMJ dysfunction, migraines, headaches, chronic fatigue, eustachian tube dysfunction, neck, and low back pain.

Chiropractic care consisted of twelve visits over six days. All her complaints were resolved except hearing loss though it did improve. She returned for a reevaluation four years later. All of her complaints continued to resolve except for partial hearing loss. (3)

Researching Chiropractic: Eczema, ADHD, Meniere’s

Chiropractic clinical case histories have been a regular feature of our patient newsletter since its inception. There seems to be no limit to the health problems that respond to chiropractic care. Probably most of them.

Eczema, Ear infections in a 28-month-old

A 28-month-old boy suffering from eczema, ear infections, and poor balance was brought in for chiropractic care.

The child had a persistent rash since the time of his first birthday. The mother tried numerous emollients and lotions without success to help with the intense itching.

Subluxation-focused chiropractic adjustments were administered. The child had 27 visits over a 3-month period. At his 3-month re-assessment, his mother reported his eczema to be gone. The patient remains under regular chiropractic care and experienced only one eczema outbreak over the following 3 years. His ear infections resolved, and his balance improved. (1)

ADHD in a 5-year-old

A 5-year-old boy was brought to a chiropractic office for an examination, for the detection and correction of subluxations. Vertebral subluxations were located, and the child received a total of 54 adjustments in the upper cervical (upper neck), thoracic (mid-back), lumbar (lower back), and sacrum over six months of care. The mother noted improvements in behavior. (2)

A 63-year-old woman with Meniere’s

Meniere’s disease is characterized by a spinning sensation (vertigo), hearing loss, ear ringing (tinnitus), and ear pressure. Vertigo may be so severe that the sufferer could experience severe nausea and imbalance.

This is the case of a 63-year-old woman who presented to a chiropractic office with a 10-year medical history of right-sided Meniere’s disease that included tinnitus, hearing loss, and vertigo. Medical care included surgery: cutting her right vestibular (cranial) nerve that was believed to be causing the problem. The surgery failed to reduce and/or resolve original symptoms.

Eventually, she decided to explore chiropractic care. A chiropractic examination revealed a vertebral subluxation of the first cervical (C-1 or atlas) vertebra. These are the vertebrae immediately below the skull. Her atlas vertebra was adjusted, and her Meniere’s symptoms were painlessly and non-surgically reduced with eventual complete resolution. (3)

Ear infections and prenatal drug exposureinfant ear

A 13-month-old baby boy with otitis media had been born premature and delivered through cesarean section  with a vacuum used for extraction. At birth his blood contained opiates, methamphetamine and other amphetamines. He had been experiencing bouts of otitis media since three months of age and had previously been managed by medical doctors with rounds of antibiotics and nasal saline.

Chiropractic analysis revealed subluxations in the cervical, thoracic, lumbar and sacroiliac regions. The boy was checked and adjusted where vertebral subluxations were found and corrected. His mother reported that his otitis media resolved the following week. He continues regular chiropractic care and has not been on any antibiotics since 13-months of age. (1)

Infertility

A 24-year-old woman began chiropractic care with a chief complaint of back pain and a 3.5-year history of infertility. She had infrequent progesterone-induced menstrual cycles.

Physical examination showed postural abnormalities, paraspinal muscular tenderness, myospasm and vertebral subluxations. She was managed for vertebral subluxations through specific chiropractic care. By the ninth visit she had her first normal menstrual cycle since the start of chiropractic care and by the twelfth visit she was pregnant. (2)

Low Back Paincase-studies-low-back-pain

Low back pain in an 8-year-old. The boy had been suffering from low back pain for two years. Various indicators for an upper cervical subluxation were found. The Blair upper cervical chiropractic technique was used to identify vertebral subluxations using specific radiographs. He received 5 months of chiropractic care using an upper cervical technique to correct the vertebral subluxation. He reported resolution of his middle and low back complaint. (1)

GERD and Chiropractic Carecase-studies-gerd

Improvement of GERD. A 37-year-old man had a two-year history of:

  • GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease)
  • mid-back (thoracic) pain
  • neck (cervical) and thoracic vertebral subluxations

When the patient began chiropractic care he received 12 spinal adjustments over the span of 3.5 months to specifically correct his cervical and thoracic vertebrae subluxations. He experienced a reduction in frequency of GERD symptoms and vertebral subluxations. He was able to maintain a less restrictive diet and remain asymptomatic and reported both quality of mental and physical health as improved and is currently satisfied with his condition. (2)

 Ear infection in a two-year-oldcase-studies-ear-infections

A 2-year-old girl was suffering from constant ear infections and fever. She started suffering when she was one month old, and since then had constant and regular antibiotics. When she came in for chiropractic care the MDs were recommending ear-tube surgery.

The goal of her chiropractic care was to assess, locate and reduce her vertebral subluxations so that her body would function closer to its optimum. After 36 visits, her otitis media was completely resolved, antibiotic use ceased and she never had ear-tube surgery. (3)

Autism and chiropractic case-studies-autism

Four children diagnosed with neurodevelopmental issues were given chiropractic care using techniques to specifically release stress on the brain and meningeal system. All four children showed measurable improvement not just in physical abilities but also in social engagement. (4)
